How Do I Get Rid Of Cigarette Smoke From My Apartment?

Many people will live in an apartment at some point in their life that smells like cigarette smoke. It is not easy to get rid of the smell but it can be done, so how do I eliminate cigarette smoke from my apartment?

You will have to do a couple of different things if you want to eliminate the cigarette smoke permanently. By doing all of these things you will be able to get rid of the smell and make it stay away.

One: Open the windows to air out the apartment. This may take awhile, but is one easy thing you can do.

Two: Wash everything with hot soapy water. You want to wash the windows, walls, drapes, cabinets, and even in the closet. One thing that you want to remember that is important to get rid of cigarette smoke is that you have to also wash the ceiling because smoke rises.

If you don't want to wash everything you can paint a lot of it to get rid of the smell although you could be masking the smell depending on how bad it is.

Three: It is very important that you clean the carpet yourself or hire a professional to do it for you. You can also get rid of the carpet and padding underneath and replace it with new. Carpet and the padding tends to store the smell of cigarettes so this is very important if you want it gone for good.

Four: If you have central heating and air then you will need to replace the air filters so that the air will not be stale or musty because of the cigarette smoke.

As opposed to a disposable type consider using a semi permanent air filter. This will filter out small paritcles that you would not otherwise be able to get.

You may even want to get a high density filter that you can wash and use over and over. These are great for really getting odors and things like mold and other problems in the air.

It also goes withouth saying that if you smoke you will want to go outside and do it from here on out. This will allow you to keep the tobacco smoke smell out permanently once you have gotten rid of it.
